Ceiling Track Lift Systems
There are three different types of ceiling lifts:
- Powered Traversing Fixed Ceiling lifts: this lift offers motorized travel horizontally along a track rail system, in addition to the standard motorized lifting/descending motion of all ceiling lifts offered by Access & Mobility. It is well-suited for long-term care to help users regain freedom.
- Non-Powered Traversing Fixed Ceiling lifts: this lift is fixed to the rail system and horizontal movement is manually powered
- Portable lifts: this lift is manually powered for horizontal movement, but allows transfer of the lift unit to another permanent or portable rail system via a click on and click off operation. These are well suited for freestanding frames or multiple tracks that are not connected between rooms
- Permanent Track – Permanently mounted tracks are rails that can be installed wherever transport is needed within the home. These mounted tracks are typically installed as part of the total ceiling lift solution, when permanently mounted tracks are the selected track option. Examples of permanent track systems are shown in the photos of the fixed ceiling lifts below.
- Freestanding or Portable Track – Freestanding or Portable Frames are tracks that are relocatable, allowing them to be moved and set-up wherever it is needed, requiring no home construction. Examples of portable track systems are listed below.
- Number of lifts needed each day
- Acceptable length of time it takes to lift
- Availability of helpers
- The frequency of availability requirements for the ceiling lift (i.e. always available or only during certain times)
- The rooms in which the ceiling lift is needed
Our assistive technology experts and Access & Mobility understand the importance of practical yet safe, secure transfers within the home without strain to caregiver or patient. All of the overhead patient lifts that Access & Mobility offers are reliably built and fully compliant with stringent safety regulations. Track Systems
Freestanding Track Systems
Place Your Track Where You Need It
When a permanently attached track system is not appropriate, portable and relocatable track systems are available. Settings where a Freestanding track system may be ideal include rental units, apartments, settings with extremely high ceilings, no load bearing option, or transport is needed in multiple or other rooms.
A Freestanding track provides the opportunity to move and set up your track in the space where it’s needed, even outside your home. Freestanding tracks are lightweight and durable and can be out of the box and ready in minutes. Couple the freestanding track with a ceiling lift motor, and you are ready to go.
Handicare Pressure Fit Track

It also has a bath adapter that enables safe transfers into standard bathing systems. It has a weight capability of 440 lbs. and weighs no more than 25 lbs. Available in two, three and four-post designs.

Handicare Castor Track
Place a Track in Any Space Without a Permanent Install
For any space where a permanent, fixed ceiling track installation isn’t practical, the Handicare Castor lift stand creates a safe lifting solution.
With a customized length and height easily adjusted to any of seven different levels, the Castor can perform the low or high lifts your specific circumstances require. And even when the stand can have only one leg on the floor—as when positioned for bathtub transfers—Castor is still your solution with the simple addition of a Handicare Wall mount kit to attach one end of its rail to a wall. The Handicare Castor has a weight capacity of up to 625 lbs.
